Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Verse Labs LLC ("Circa", "we", "us") collects, why, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. It covers the Circa app at app.connectwithcirca.com and our site at connectwithcirca.com, including the waitlist.

The short version

  • We do not sell your data. We do not share it for advertising.
  • We collect what we need to show you events at your school, plus product analytics to learn what works.
  • Most of what you post is visible to other students at your school.
  • You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.

1. What we collect

Information you give us

  • Waitlist: your email address and the school it belongs to.
  • Account: your school email address. We use it to sign you in and to connect you to your school.
  • Profile: your name, photo, bio, major, graduation year, and interests. All are optional except what we need to create your account.
  • Activity: events you create (including images), RSVPs, saved events, comments, groups you join, and users you block.
  • Reports and messages: content you report and the reason, and anything you send us by email or through our contact form.
  • School requests: if you ask us to add your school, the email and school you submit.

Information we collect automatically

  • Usage: which pages and events you view, and actions you take, such as RSVPs. We record event views so organizers can see how many people viewed their event. Organizers see counts, not who viewed.
  • Device and log data: IP address, browser, device type, approximate location derived from IP, and timestamps.
  • Analytics identifiers: we use PostHog to understand how people use Circa. PostHog assigns an identifier to your browser, including before you sign in. When you sign in, we connect that earlier activity to your account.

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, phone number, or government ID. We do not get your grades or records from your school.

2. How we use it

  • To run Circa: sign you in, show events at your school, handle RSVPs and comments, and send emails you need, such as sign-in codes.
  • To personalize: rank events using your interests and activity.
  • To tell you when Circa launches at your school, if you joined the waitlist.
  • To keep Circa safe: review reports, enforce our Terms, and prevent spam and abuse.
  • To improve Circa: understand which features people use and where they get stuck.
  • To follow the law and respond to lawful requests.

3. Who can see your information

  • Students at your school who are signed in can see your name and photo, the events you create, your comments, and which events you RSVP'd to.
  • Anyone with the link can see a public event page. It shows event details. It does not show who RSVP'd.
  • Organizers can see how many people viewed their events, not who viewed them.
  • Only you can see your email address, bio, major, graduation year, and interests. We use them to run and personalize Circa.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only with:

  • Service providers who process it for us under contract:
    • Supabase: database, sign-in, and image storage
    • Vercel: hosting
    • Resend: email delivery and our waitlist list
    • PostHog: product analytics
  • Legal and safety: when the law requires it, or when we believe in good faith it is needed to protect someone's safety or rights.
  • A business transfer: if Circa is acquired or merges, your information may transfer to the new owner under this policy. We will tell you before that happens. If Circa shuts down, we delete user data rather than sell it.

We do not share your information with your school.

5. Cookies and similar tools

We use cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and to run analytics. We do not use advertising cookies. You can block cookies in your browser, but sign-in will not work without them.

6. How long we keep it

  • Account and content: while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete it within 30 days.
  • Backups: removed on their normal cycle, within 30 more days.
  • Waitlist: until Circa launches at your school and you sign up, or until you unsubscribe.
  • Analytics data: up to 12 months, then deleted or made anonymous.
  • Reports and enforcement records: as long as needed to keep Circa safe, and no longer than 2 years after an account closes.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Edit: change your profile in the app at any time.
  • Delete: email support@connectwithcirca.com from your school email address and we delete your account and data within 30 days.
  • Access and copy: ask us for a copy of your data and we send it within 30 days.
  • Emails: unsubscribe from waitlist and product emails with the link in each email. We still send sign-in codes you request.

Depending on where you live, including California and the European Economic Area, you may have more rights: to know, access, correct, delete, or port your data, to object to or restrict processing, and to not be treated differently for using these rights. Email us to use any of them. We will verify your request through your school email and reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

For people in the European Economic Area and the UK: we process your data to provide the service you asked for (contract), for our legitimate interests in keeping Circa safe and improving it, and with your consent where required. Our providers are based in the United States, and your data is processed there.

8. Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls that keep each school's data separate, and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you as the law requires.

9. Children

Circa is for students 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 gave us information, email us and we will delete it.

10. Your school and FERPA

Circa is independent. We are not operated by or on behalf of your school, and we do not receive education records from it. Your school email is only used to confirm which school you attend.

11. Changes to this policy

If we make a significant change, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
